Question: I am seeing a high bounce rate on my site due to Roadster pages driving traffic away from my site. Why is this happening and can you fix it?

Answer: Roadster does not increase your bounce rate bounce rates.

First off, what is Bounce Rate?

Bounce rate represents the % of single page sessions - meaning users who land on your site, then leave without interacting in anyway. If a user is clicking into the Express Store from your main site, they are actively interacting with the website, thus Google will never consider those sessions a bounce.

If Express Store is a Subdomain:

If the Express Store is a subdomain, Google considers subdomains part of your website. Going into the Express Store does not count as a bounce or an exit as far as Google is concerned.

Subdomain Example:

  • Website = joestruckworld.com
  • Express Store = express.joestruckworld.com
  • The domain is the same

If the Express Store is on a different domain:

The Roadster analytics script automatically controls cross domain tracking, and will inform Google that the Express Store is part of your website. If the Roadster script is correctly installed, Roadster will not cause an increase in bounce rate.

If your Express Store is on a different domain, and the Roadster analytics script is not installed, then yes, you will see a higher bounce rate. If this is the situation, you will need to work with us to fix this.

Different Domain Example:

  • Website = joestruckworld.com
  • Express Store = joestruckworld.roadster.com
  • Domains are different = will need the Roadster analytics script to address this
